In 2018, Olympic relay service company and Alibaba Cloud jointly launched the Olympic relay cloud to provide innovative on-cloud relay solutions. The Olympic relay cloud was put into use for the first time at the Tokyo Olympic Games held in 2021. the broadcast content exceeded 9500 hours.

One year later, in the Beijing Winter Olympics, this innovative solution was upgraded again. In addition to providing more than 6,000 hours of broadcast content to relay agencies around the world, Olympic relay cloud also for the first time, the results of the event, the broadcast of the event, the release of information, the arrival of athletes, accommodation and accommodation, all information systems such as transportation are migrated to the cloud, realizing unified portal, application integration and data integration.

With the support of the relay cloud, many devices can be migrated to the cloud without transportation. Technical and editorial personnel can also work remotely. Even if no one goes to the scene, the Olympic relay can be completed.

“Compared with traditional satellite relay, cloud relay is cheaper and more flexible.” Kona said that this is in line with the goal of reducing the cost of the Olympic Games in the Olympic 2020+5 agenda of the International Olympic Committee.

In addition, compared with traditional transmission methods, cloud computing can transmit higher-definition image data with high bandwidth, timely expand and ensure smoothness when the number of visits increases, and can also communicate more deeply with AI, the integration of AR and 3D technologies to realize innovation are all the great changes that cloud computing is bringing to the Olympic Games.
